The books of Pemblewick Press were written by Suzanne Strauss Art. Inspired by the "Central Subject" approach of Shady Hill School, Suzanne taught a variety of history courses to middle school students at the Fay School for 16 years. During that time, she developed  the  rich history curricula that formed the basis of her original series of books, Early Times. (Published by Wayside Publishing, these "kid-friendly,"  volumes cover the history of ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the Middle Ages.) Since then, Suzanne has continued to write history textbooks for middle schoolers, and these are published by Pemblewick Press. Her many volumes are currently used in *public and private schools throughout the country, as well as in the homeschool.

Suzanne is currently at work on two new projects: a mystery novel (The Book of Marvels) set in 13th century France (for ages 12 and up) and a book about ancient Mesopotamia (for grades 6 and up). She lives in Lincoln, Massachusetts with her husband and their three dogs.

*Suzanne's books are used in such innovative public school systems as those of Brookline, Concord, and Newton, Massachusetts and Bangor, Maine as well as exemplary private schools including the Park School, Chapin School, Ethel Walker School, Far Brook School, Saint Michael's Country Day, and Phillips Academy.

Recent reviews of Suzanne's books:

The Well-Trained Mind (by Susan Wise Bauer): "These books are wonderful: clear, readable, gripping, and full of projects, maps, writings assignments, personality profiles, and suggested readings... They cover civilizations and stories often neglected in other texts.

Trivium Pursuit - online homeschooling curriculum guide: "Suzanne Art is very thorough in her approach. Her books cover art, geography, architecture, literature, politics, as well as religion... they have been a wonderful addition to our homesechool material."
